This year, teacher Alicia took the school photos... for FREE! Each family has received a folder with their child's original photos and edited photos.

Astolot clothing will be ready to oder during the first week of school! We are so excited to see everyone this new upcoming school year!
We had a GREAT trip in March to MacSkimming. It was awesome to see some teens breaking out of their "technology shell" and trying new outdoor skills. Some things the teens got to try out was GIS navigating, compass skills, fire building, shelter building, snowshoeing, cooking, and animal tracking! For some, this experience was something they had never done before! All the teachers agree that after the trip we noticed a great improvement in the teen's confidence, friendship, and behaviour.
Check out some of the pictures from fire building! Shout out to Ewan's dad, Gregor, for coming along and being a HUGE help. Also, thank you to all the parent volunteers who drove all of us! Astolot had the privilege of welcoming Chaka Chikodzi into our school to share music and art of Zimbabwe. Chaka taught the student's how to use traditional instruments, such as the xylophone. He also taught the students how to sculpt with wire. Chaka believes that students need to experience the arts outside the city. Chaka will hopefully be back in the spring for stone carving. Sadly, the winter months are not the only battle for homeless youth in Ottawa. Many are suffering from trauma, mental health issues, poverty, addiction, and other challenges that contribute to homelessness.
On December 1st 2016 Team Astolot is sleeping out to raise critical funds to support homeless youth in our community. Please, help us make a difference in the life of a youth and donate today! We are half way through Drone Club and we have taken some great pictures so far! The students have learned all about how the DJ Phantom 3 flies, how the camera works, how to control the drone, the rules an regulations that are currently in place for drones, and more!
Parents of students in Drone Club received an email with a link to the photos taken thus far. The high school students at Astolot have been learning a lot about the suffrage that First Nations have experienced throughout Canadian history. We are now focusing on reconciliation - what can we do now? We can support! We have sent out letters to the youth of Attawapiskat showing our support.
You can show your support too by writing a letter of your own to the address below! Hello Astolot Community!
We have officially kicked off the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser! Please donate online by CLICKING HERE |
